Senior Underwriter, Professional Lines
Based in Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver - 100% remote
Must have drivers license
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Underwriter to join our dynamic Specialty Lines team. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the underwriting process, ensuring the profitability and risk management of our portfolios. As a Senior Underwriter, you will bring industry knowledge, an established broker network, strategic mindset, and an entrepreneurial spirit to contribute to the growth and success of our underwriting department.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough risk assessments for Professional Liability ( Miscellaneous, Architects/Engineers/Contractors) & Management Liability ( Non-profit/Private) accounts.
• Develop and underwrite a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.
• Evaluate and determine appropriate underwriting decisions, including policy terms, conditions, and pricing.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders, including brokers and clients, to understand their needs and provide expert guidance on risk management solutions.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to inform underwriting strategies and decisions.
• Mentor and provide guidance to other underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
• Collaborate with the senior leadership team to contribute insights and support the creation of new insurance products.
• Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance market presence and build professional relationships
. • Organize and lead Financial Professional Services marketing efforts within your assigned region.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; advanced degree or professional designations (e.g., CIP, RPLU, CRM)
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the underwriting of Professional Liability and/or Management Liability.
• Established network of brokers that focus on Professional Liability & Management Liability risks.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate risks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues. • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, market dynamics, and industry best practices.
• Proficient in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
