Our valued client is looking to add a dynamic and skilled Farm Underwriter to join their Edmonton office. Reporting to the Farm Manager, the successful candidate will play a vital role in building a profitable and growing portfolio by underwriting risks effectively and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

As a Farm Underwriter, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating Risks: Assessing quote requests to determine risk acceptability, policy terms, and rates for new business.
  • Managing Policies: Reviewing and processing renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
  • Reinsurance Coordination: Placing facultative reinsurance on risks exceeding capacity.
  • Broker Support: Providing expert advice, answering inquiries, and maintaining strong relationships with brokers.
  • Collaboration: Liaising with claims and accounting teams to address mutual concerns.
  • Broker Relations: Visiting brokers to communicate underwriting approaches, foster relationships, and resolve issues.
  • Representation: Attending industry events to represent and promote the company brand.

What You Bring

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in underwriting or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Policy Knowledge: Solid understanding of policy wordings and rating guidelines.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Organizational Strength: Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Credentials: CIP/FCIP designation (or working towards it) is a strong asset.
