Aviva’s Internal Audit purpose is “to help the Board and Executive Management protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of Aviva.” Internal Audit is a global function in the Aviva Group working across Aviva’s business divisions and has considerable exposure and influence on strategic decision makers across the Group and within Canada.

In this regard, our Financial Risk Audit team, which is led by our Group Financial Risk Audit Director, provides internal audit coverage of all complex technical financial risks across the Aviva group of companies, including Canada.

 

 

 

Based out of Canada, and as member of the Group Financial Risk Audit team (with dotted line reporting to the Canadian Chief Audit Officer), the Senior Manager - Financial and Insurance Risk support the delivery of financial / technical audits and will assess and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of the design and operation Aviva Canada’s framework of controls.

What you'll do:

  • Work with the Group Financial Risk Audit Director and Chief Audit Officer to help deliver the portfolio of financial/technical audits included in the annual risk-based audit plan.

  • Apply specialized technical knowledge and experience to Financial and Insurance Risk audit reviews in Canada.

  • Contribute to annual planning activities in Canada, and support ongoing reporting to executives and the Audit Committee.

  • For applicable Financial Risk / Technical audits, develop and deliver an audit opinion on internal controls through completion of the audit process. This includes planning (risk assessment, scoping, objective setting), fieldwork, reporting and follow up.

  • Serve as the primary Internal Audit contact to senior management for Financial and Insurance Risk audits, on behalf of the Group Financial Risk Audit Director.

  • Take ownership for both own development, ensuring objectives are met and personal development plans in place and mentor / provide feedback to colleagues supporting audit delivery.

  • Contribute to (and where appropriate lead) wider IA initiatives and projects.

  • Manage the timely production of high quality reports.

 

 

 

What you'll bring:

  • Degree or equivalent experience and professional qualification preferred.

  • Professional audit, risk, accounting or actuarial qualification or equivalent business experience required.

  • 10 to 15 years of finance, internal audit or risk management experience, including actuarial experience, preferably in insurance or in audit or consulting firm in the financial services department.

  • Good knowledge of financial / risk / insurance related topics.

  • Experience in leading sophisticated projects/reviews, leading small-medium teams and negotiating issues with management.

  • Possesses strong business insight and an understanding of the critical business issues facing insurance companies.

  • Demonstrated strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, strong interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in managing senior level relationships and influencing their behaviour.

  • Experience in the deployment of Data Analytics capabilities and solutions.

 

 

 

What you’ll get:

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $92,100 to $171,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
