Technical Underwriter, Financial Lines

Our Client is currently looking for a Technical Underwriter. Reporting to the Head of Financial Lines, you will play a crucial role in implementing underwriting strategies and solutions for our diverse portfolio. You will develop expertise in their product lines and within the industry, contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines, and support the overall profitability and growth of our business.

Responsibilities: 

•    Contribute to the development and implementation of underwriting strategies such as pricing, product development, underwriting tools, and processes for a specific portfolio, line of business, or product line.
•    Continuously develop knowledge in product lines and the industry to stay abreast of market trends and insights and work closely with the underwriting team to provide relevant training in these areas.
•    Monitor underwriting strategy performance through metrics, data analysis, and insights to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
•    Operate within established organizational Risk Policy, Global Underwriting Policy, and underwriting governance policies to maintain compliance and ensure best practices.
•    Contribute to the development of technical underwriting guidelines, best practices, controls, and procedures.
•    Work on projects of low to high complexity, providing technical expertise and ensuring successful project delivery.
•    Address and resolve underwriting queries within delegated authority.
•    Assist in portfolio management by analyzing profitability and growth of specialty areas of business.
•    Monitor technical price accuracy and support the Technical Price Certification process.
•    Contribute to the Technical Underwriting Review Process to ensure consistency and accuracy.
•    Participate in compliance-related activities, including regulatory exams and insurance department inquiries.
•    Anticipate, recognize, and respond to the needs of customers, supporting the implementation of customer initiatives.
•    Provide regular status updates on projects and initiatives.
•    Resolve technical problems by referring to policies, procedures, and specifications.
•    Compare alternatives for solving problems or improving procedures or products and provide recommendations.
•    Offer technical expertise for short-term, defined scope projects.

What you bring to the table

 

Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area.

Preferred

•    Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
•    Experience working in a team environment
•    Strong problem solving skills
•    Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to efficiently impart knowledge through training
•    Microsoft Office skills
•    Proven ability to develop product wordings is an asset
•    French language skills are an asset and required for candidates applying to the Montreal office location
•    Verbal and written proficiency in the English language is required in order to facilitate communication with internal and external key stakeholders located outside of Quebec
